For Student Pilots

    Learning to fly? Here's the honest truth.

    A4Aviation is a members-only club focused on access to high-quality, modern aircraft. We do not provide primary flight training. But we work with student pilots in three important ways — and we're glad to help you find the right path.

    We are not a flight school

    A4Aviation does not offer ab-initio (primary) training for the Sport, Private, or Recreational certificate. Our aircraft are rented dry to pilots who already hold an FAA certificate appropriate to the airplane.

    For primary training in DFW, we recommend reputable Part 61 instructors and flight schools at KDTO, KAFW, and KGKY. We're happy to point you in the right direction — just call us.

    Train with an independent A4 CFI

    We have independent CFIs authorized to train in our aircraft. Because they operate outside the overhead of a traditional flight school, the all-in cost is often significantly less expensive — without sacrificing quality or safety.

    Once you have your certificate

    Step into modern aircraft

    Most students train in 1970s Cessnas. After your checkride, transition into a modern Jabiru J230 with a Garmin G3X glass panel — the airplane you actually want to fly on the weekend.

    Sport Pilot friendly

    All A4Aviation aircraft are LSA-eligible, so a Sport Pilot certificate is enough. No medical required if you meet BasicMed or Sport Pilot medical eligibility.

    What to expect after your checkride

    1. 1Apply for membership and submit a copy of your certificate, medical (if applicable), and current logbook.
    2. 2Complete a CFI checkout in the specific aircraft you want to fly. Typical checkout is 1.5–3 hours dual.
    3. 3Schedule and fly. Wet rates from $100–$150/hr. $50/month membership keeps the club tight.
    4. 4Stay current with our recurrent training calendar and member events.
