For Independent CFIs · KDTO

    Your students.
    Our airplanes.

A modern Jabiru fleet and a real dispatch operation — without a school taking a cut of your instruction.

A4 is an operating company, not a flight school. You set your rate and bill students directly. We keep the airframes hangared, glass-panel current, and ready at 9 a.m.

Why independent CFIs choose A4 Aviation.

    We don't take your students.

A4 Aviation is not a flight school. We do not maintain a stable of CFIs who get assigned students. We don't pull names off a list. Your student stays your student — at A4 and after. We provide the fleet, the dispatch, and the operational backbone. You run your business.

    A fleet that's actually ready.

Modern Jabiru fleet. Glass panels. Autopilots. ADS-B In/Out. Always hangared. Maintained on a fleet-grade schedule. When your student shows up for a 9 AM lesson, the airplane is fueled, preflighted, and ready. Dispatch reliability is not a marketing claim — it's an operational discipline.

    Transparent CFI economics.

$135/hour wet for the airplane. You set your instruction rate and bill your student directly. No mandatory revenue split. No platform fee per lesson. We don't insert ourselves into your CFI relationship. The airplane is what we rent. Your instruction is yours.

    What the platform includes.

    The fleet

    • Modern Jabiru Light Sport fleet
    • Dual GRT Sport HS glass panels
    • DigiFlight Vizion 380 autopilots with altitude preselect

    • Fleet-grade maintenance schedule
    • Backup airplane available for most dispatch days

    • Online scheduling with real-time availability
    • Fuel included — no pump receipts to reconcile
    • Insurance coverage for renter pilots (CFI verifies own coverage)
    • Maintenance ops team — squawks handled, you keep teaching
    • Direct line to A4 dispatch on lesson day
    • Quarterly platform check-in for active CFIs
    • Member referral track if you want to introduce A4 to students

The flight school model is broken for CFIs. We're a different model.

Most flight schools pay CFIs as 1099 contractors at $40–$60/hour while charging students $90–$120. The school keeps the spread. The CFI gets the leftovers — and gets pressured to upsell, hit utilization targets, and "feed the funnel." When the student finishes a rating, the school books their next rating with whoever's available. The CFI starts over.

A4 Aviation is an aviation operating company. We rent airplanes. That's our business. We don't broker your instruction. We don't take a cut of your CFI rate. We don't assign you students or pull them away from you. The economics are clean: you bill what you bill, the student rents the airplane wet at $135/hour, and we keep the airplane flying. Your CFI business is your CFI business.

    The Fuel Math

The economics that make teaching in a Jabiru work.

The math hasn't changed — the price of fuel has. A 9 GPH airplane at $7 avgas is a $63-an-hour fuel bill before the engine starts. A 100-hour year is $6,300 in fuel alone. That is why used Cherokees and 172s are sitting on ramps from Dallas to Detroit.

Our Jabiru fleet burns 5 GPH. That is $35 an hour in fuel. $3,500 a year. You save $2,800 against a Warrior, $3,200 against a 172. That is a hangar. That is an annual. That is the difference between flying and posting "for sale" on Barnstormers. A4's dry rate keeps your hourly low and puts fuel in your hands — at ~5 GPH on ethanol-free auto fuel, your fuel cost stays among the lowest in the fleet.

    A4 Aviation Jabiru
    5 GPH
    fuel burn
    $35 / hour fuel
    at $7/gal 100LL
    $3,500 / year
    fuel only, at 100 hours
    Piper Warrior (PA-28-161)
    9 GPH
    fuel burn
    $63 / hour fuel
    at $7/gal 100LL
    $6,300 / year
    fuel only, at 100 hours
    Cessna 172
    9.5 GPH
    fuel burn
    $67 / hour fuel
    at $7/gal 100LL
    $6,700 / year
    fuel only, at 100 hours

Comparison assumes $7/gal 100LL across all three aircraft. These are fuel costs only. A4 Aviation's Jabiru rates are dry — you buy fuel directly, typically ~5 GPH (and cheaper still on approved ethanol-free auto fuel where available).

    Frequently asked questions from CFIs.

Can I bring my existing students to A4?

Yes. That's the point. You bring your students. They rent the airplane from A4 at the wet rate. You bill them directly for instruction. We don't insert ourselves into your CFI–student relationship.

Do you require a CFI checkout to teach in the Jabiru fleet?

Yes — a standard CFI checkout in the J230 or J250 is required before you can sign for a student lesson. The Jabiru is honest and easy to transition into for any CFI with light-aircraft experience. Plan on 2–3 hours in the airplane plus a ground review. We do not charge for the ground portion of the checkout.

    What insurance do you require?

A4 maintains hull coverage on the fleet. We require active CFIs to carry their own CFI liability policy — typically $1M occurrence / $100K each person. We'll verify a current certificate of insurance during onboarding and on renewal.

Do you take a percentage of my instruction rate?

No. We are not a flight school. We do not broker instruction. You bill your student directly for instruction. A4 bills the student directly for the airplane. We do not see your CFI rate and we do not take a cut.

Can I run accelerated training programs?

Yes — with advance scheduling. Block reservations for multi-day accelerated programs are welcomed. Contact dispatch at least two weeks ahead of any program longer than three consecutive days.

    Where is A4 Aviation based?

Denton Enterprise Airport (KDTO) in Denton, Texas. Roughly 30 minutes from most DFW metro neighborhoods. Hangared. Open ramp and pattern.

Do you do Part 61 only, or Part 141 as well?

Part 61 only at this time. The Jabiru fleet is well-suited to Sport Pilot, Private Pilot, BFRs, transition training, and recreational instruction. We do not operate a Part 141 program.
